tennessee::day 1-nashville & memphis

we needed to be at the airport by 4:30am on may 23. there is no way i was going to be able to carry two sleeping girls plus our luggage down three flights of stairs at 3:45am in order to get kg picked up from work at 4:00am. no thank you. so instead, at midnight, the girls and i drove the bus to kg's work, pulled out the bed and slept in his parking lot until he got off work at 4. he then hopped in and drove to the airport with us still sleeping. :) worked perfectly.
they are such good little travelers.
the three of them were out cold shortly after the flight started.
eventually river was awake enough to play with this sweet baby behind us.
when we got to minneapolis we were taken by cart to our gate. it was so far away and there is no way we would have made it at the girls pace. i was grateful! plus this old guy drove fast so it was fun. the girls kept throwing their arms up in the air like they were riding a roller coaster.

i love that they had a play area while we waited.

as we were boarding our next plane flower backed her suit case over my big toe. ouch.

finally we landed in nashville. got our rental car and went in search of lunch. the attendant at the airport recommended jack's and it ended up being my favorite restaurant of the trip.

we shared a plate of the most delicious bbq!

then we got back in the car and drove to memphis.

we arrived a couple of hours later and got settled. our hotel was really nice.

on a recommendation from the hotel staff we went to a restaurant for dinner that allowed you to shoot toothpicks at the ceiling through straws.

it was a lot of fun and consequently river thinks that's acceptable where ever we go.

river even tried two straws at the same time. :)
by the time we got back to the hotel it was dark and the girls had been begging to swim. we knew if we went to the hotel room that kg and i wouldn't want to leave so we told them to go swim in their clothes.

the water was freezing!
it was a fun ending to our first day in tennessee.
